I don’t need to tell you that regular exercise is believed to prevent high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, many forms of cancer, and countless other illnesses. I don’t need to tell you that exercise promotes a positive and energetic lifestyle. And a quality of life that is un-surpassed by a sedentary life. We all know that. So why do we have trouble with exercise as a part of our lifestyle? 

You’re bored! Maybe you dread going to the gym. It’s not interesting. It’s just a room full of people and machines and loud music. Now you know how I feel about the gym! Yet I subjected myself to it sporadically, for years. Some people love the gym. We’re all different. And we all have different needs. I need to be outdoors. I love being outdoors. So when I have a choice, I exercise outdoors. That option changes with weather and my business travels. So I still end up in the gym sometimes. But even that brings “variety”. But the advantage now is that I have developed a love for exercise, so I can make it through those less desirable work-out scenarios.

Walking… Running… Biking… Dancing?

The most popular choice for those of us who need to get started in a good cardio-vascular exercise program is walking. Walking is a very healthful and enjoyable form of exercise. I walk in the hills in my neighborhood. For variety’s sake, I take different routes. Sometimes, I drive my car to a park, or another neighborhood. I will not let myself get bored. I open my ears to the birds. I look up at the trees, and listen for the wind to blow in the trees. I watch for different kinds of birds, squirrels, rabbits, even raccoons, and possums. I usually only see possums and raccoons early in the morning, or at dawn or dusk. If my schedule is pressed and I have to start real early in the morning, or walk in the evening, I may see different critters! Again, I’m getting variety!

My husband and I often walk together. If we can walk in the evening, we may see raccoons, possums, or even an occasional deer. We also enjoy listening to the coyote calls. Ever so often, we see them.

The bottom line is that I don’t let myself get bored. I have chosen varied locations with lots of different things to see and hear.

The best approach is to avoid catching coronavirus in the first place. Taking precautions can help stop the spread of the condition. Those who have the coronavirus should stay home until the symptoms pass so they do not infect others with the illness.
